Fight on Loyola, Fight to Win
With a 21-17 score the Cubs of Loyola High defeat the Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits to win their first CIF Southern Section Championship in 13 years.
It was a great game all the way through.
The only 2 spots that were bad involved some sportsmanship from the Poly players, but the coaches were visibly displeased and attempted to get the players to show something that resembled it. To the coaches credit.

Hey batter batter. Swing batter batter
After listening to Dean this past week of interviews on NPR and Hardball , he reminded me of two famous sports owners. George Steinbrenner (current owner of the Yankees) and Ted Turner (former owner of the Braves).
The Ted Turner relation.
When Ted Turner owned the Braves he promised the fans he'd never miss a home game, but he also wanted to sail in the America's Cup sailing race. His solution... go to the winter meetings for Baseball go to the top of the building and start claiming the commissioner was trying to kill him. He was suspended for the season on some crack-pot story. Much like Dean endorsing a crack-pot theory about Bush letting 9-11 happen.
The George Steinbrenner relation.
When Steinbrenner purchased the Yankees he said he was going to be a hands-off owner and not interfere with day to day management. We know how long that lasted... And Dean said he is a capitalist, but wants more regulation on business and wants to break up companies.
Fun Fact:
Day and night were not created equal. Thanks to refaction, which causes the sun to appear above the horizon before it has risen and after it has set, there on average 728 minutes of daily sun but only 712 minutes of twilight and combined. The years offer two days of extra sunshine.

I knew there was a reason to like the irish
Joyous days. I got my fist official plug from the irish lass, I guess she gets to keep the honor of a link.
Listened to Hugh talk about finding the world's largest prime number. His main question was why do it?
Well why did Hillary climb Everest?
Why did the mini-sub "Trieste" go to the bottom of the Marianas Trench (aka Challenger Deep)?
Because it was there and no one else had done it before.

Much of my University Studies were spent talking and learning about the influence environmentalists push on to Civil & Environmental Engineers. Look forward to reading a book that address the problems these activists cause.

Almost left out the rugby
One other sports post I missed.
England defeated Australia to win the Rugby World Cup with a drop goal as the overtime period ended. It was a great game to watch (3 times so far).
And
My High School is playing in the CIF-SS Div 1 Championship this Friday. GO CUBS!

I'm back and with a plan
Well I have decided to stop being lazy and start posting again, with the master plan of appointment to the Young Justice League of America on the Hugh Hewitt Blog as the representative from Loyola Marymount University (or the small liberal arts college committee). The other part of the plan is to replace the Elder as the Hugh Hewitt as the sports correspondent, but that was driven by the Elder's stunning commentary on the Angel's signing of Bartolo Colon.
As far as that signing, it was a great pick up (although I would like to see Colon drop a few pounds). It gives the Angels a actual #1 pitcher with multiple seasons putting up good numbers. Not just one good season like Washburn had but could not repeat. Throw in the addition of Escobar as a solid #2 starter and the Angels have a good 1-2 punch. As long as the siginings don't go the way of Mo Vaughn or the trade for Kent Bottenfield. They should be in good shape. The other part to remember is that the Angels still owe Kevin Appier $12 million for the next season.
The downside is like the Yankees the Angels now have 8 starting pitchers, when they only need 5. One of them is easy to deal with, just send Kevin Gregg back to the minors to develop more. That leaves Aaron Sele, Ramon Ortiz, Jarrod Washburn, John Lackey, & Scot Shields. Shields can go back in the bullpen as a long reliever like he was before he was moved into the starting rotation. Rumor is Washburn maybe offered to Boston in a trade for Nomar, personally I'd rather dump Sele because of Sele's lack of performance and injury, but Boston won't take Sele. Lackey is a good young pitcher and worth keeping. Ortiz will stay also as he is improving and has some promise, but that is said every year and well he did gain 3 years of experience in one off season due to a birth certificate mistake.
When it comes down to what I would like to see is a rotation of:
Colon, Escobar, Washburn, Ortiz, Lackey.
But with a trade for Nomar, I would be perfectly happy with a rotation of:
Colon, Escobar, Ortiz, Lackey, Sele.
Other sport Blurbs...
Kings blew a 2-1 lead tied the game at 3-3 with 4.8 seconds left. Then lost in overtime.
Clippers amazingly beat Dallas, but who really cares about the Clippers?
Lakers were off.
And USC fans are still complaining. On the good side Kleenex stock is on the rise. Bad side I work with a USC student and have to hear about it. You know Notre Dame loosing to Syracuse was really worth all the humor in seeing USC left out of the Sugar bowl, probably the most tolerable loss by one of my favorite teams ever.
